    May 5, 2024 Dear reader,Two years ago, I joined the Northern Star as an opinion columnist. My first piece was basically a look both ways on in-person vs. online classes. Today, I am signing off. My time at the Northern Star became a defining feature in not only my college career but my life. I learned what kind of work I want to do. I learned what success is to me. I found what pushes me to want to be better, to grow.

    The ninth annual Latin American Music Awards, Latin AMAs, will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday. The theme of this year’s award show will be, “We Speak Música.” The Latin AMAs will be co-hosted by Alejandra Espinoza, Carlos Ponce and none other than the queen of Latin pop, Thalía.

    DeKALB – The Northern Star has begun a partnership with NIU’s chapter of the American Meteorological Society to produce weekly forecasts each Monday. Founded in 1971, AMS is a student organization recognized by the Department of Earth, Atmosphere and Environment. “Our objective is to provide professional opportunities for primarily undergrads but also undergrads and grad students here at NIU,” said Kelvin Hawthorne, president of NIU’s AMS chapter.

Any “closed by exception” case is closed due to circumstances outside the investigation (missing a complainant, suspect was arrested for another crime, etc.).
