Contestants are being sought for the annual Little Miss Rodeo and All Around Cowboy Contest. This year’s event is to be held on Monday, Sept. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Tri-State Rodeo Arena. Contest is open to children ages 5-7. Contestants must be age 5 by Aug. 1 and no older than age 7 at the time of the contest. Registration has changed from previous years. Online Registration is now available at tristaterodeo.org under the “Rodeo Events” tab.

DES MOINES — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate is celebrating the passage and signing of two important election-related bills. Gov. Kim Reynolds officially signed Iowa House Files 928 and 954 into law on June 2. Iowa House File 928 reinforces and standardizes Iowa’s recount procedures and requires uniformity across recount methods – recounts must now be conducted in all precincts in a race and by using the same recount methods.

DES MOINES —Through the Safe Haven law, a baby girl, born May 23, is now in the care and custody of the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and will be placed with a foster family until permanent placement is determined. This brings the overall total to 77 infants since the law went into effect more than two decades ago, and the third infant in 2025. Iowa’s Safe Haven Act is an option for parents in crisis who determine they cannot care for an infant up to 90 days old.

DES MOINES — Iowa’s new unemployment system is now live on iowaworks.gov, creating for the first time one centralized location for filing a claim, participating in reemployment activities, and ultimately finding new employment. In addition to the job and recruitment tools that were previously available, claimants and employers can now use iowaworks.gov for all actions within the unemployment process.

The Lee County Narcotics Task Force reports the arrest of a Keokuk man on felony drug charges. David Alan Londrie, age 62, of Keokuk is charged with: Possession of more than 5 grams of methamphetamine with the intent to deliver, a class B felony; and Iowa drug tax stamp violation, a class D felony. The charges came after a traffic stop conducted by the Keokuk Police Department. David Londrie was taken into custody for an outstanding arrest warrant.
