Investors brace for a busy slate of corporate earnings, and signs of strain or resilienceThe Dow Jones Industrial Average overcame a midday swoon to close higher for a fifth straight session on Monday, extending a relief rally underpinned by optimism that trade deals are in the offing. The blue-chip index ended the day with a gain of 0.3%, or about 114 points. The S&P 500 rose less than 0.1% after wavering between gains and losses throughout the day.

Investor relief about a possible easing of U.S.-China trade tensions is extending to cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin recently traded above $94,000, its highest level since early March, after climbing back above $90,000 Tuesday. Late Tuesday, President Trump reassured markets by saying tariffs on China would "come down substantially" and he didn't plan to fire Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also said a trade deal with China was possible.

There is "a good chance" the U.S. can strike a trade deal with the U.K, Vice President JD Vance has said. Vance told news website UnHerd the Trump administration is working hard with the U.K. government on a deal. The U.S. imposed baseline tariffs of 10% on the U.K. on April 5. "The President really loves the United Kingdom. He loved the Queen. He admires and loves the King. It is a very important relationship," Vance said.
