Flanked by two mixing desks and synths, and a microphone to her front, Kelly Lee Owens cuts a lone silhouette on stage tonight. Yet through sheer stagecraft and energy alone, she transforms this set-up into multiple worlds.
There’s Owens, mixing tracks, throwing her body from side to side. Vocal-heavy tracks see her face us, synths now a backdrop for her haunting vocals (“Let’s get into some Celtic melancholic shit,” she banters midway through the set).

Last year, immersed in uncertainties in my life, I felt a pull to any bodies of water I could find. All I knew was that I wanted to be by lakes, seas, oceans, and so, I planned trips seeking these out wherever I could find them. Day to day my mind is pulled into a hundred different streams: obligations, tasks, random thoughts, hopes, worries, memories. Water felt like a potential antidote. It wasn’t so much that I was seeking escape as it was that I wanted to experience something bigger than myself.

Just over two decades, four albums, and countless live shows around the world later, even as their sound has evolved and grown and the music landscape has changed, they’ve indeed remained true to this ethos.
