A bin holds 17 bags filled with styrofoam, cigarettes, plastic bottles, cans, cardboard, clothing, discarded bits of metal, broken glass, candy wrappers and single use plastic items. This collection adds up to over 140 pounds of trash. On April 19, about three dozen people came together to pull garbage out of Bassett Creek / Ȟaȟá Wakpádaŋ. People there included folks from the environmental commission, city staff and volunteers.

Most cities in Hennepin County have been deciding how to register the new cannabis retail businesses so they can collect the fees and exert some control. However, some small cities have opted to give that responsibility to the county. Robbinsdale held the first reading of its cannabis retail ordinance last week. The City Council settled on a 300-foot buffer between the cannabis stores and the schools as well as a 500-foot buffer from another registered cannabis retail business. Additionally, those businesses can only go in spaces zoned as B-2, B-3, B-4, DD1, DD2 and Business Warehouse.
