Last week Compeer Financial filed a lawsuit against Sunterra Farms, requesting the court appoint a receiver to oversee the care of 110,000 hogs. The court appointed receiver in Compeer Financial’s lawsuit against three hog farms in Yankton County, South Dakota has filed a motion requesting the court command Alberta, Canada-based Sunterra Farms to show cause why they and their counsel should not be held in contempt of court for violating the receiver order.

Dairy farm located 4 miles from the Hungary/Austria border. Hungary's National Food Chain Safety Office has confirmed a second case of foot-and-mouth disease, this time in a dairy cattle herd in the Levél settlement of Győr-Moson-Sopron county. Authorities immediately started vaccination for the 3,000 animals, and say liquidation of the farm will begin soon.

As of March 1, the United States was home to 74.512 million head of hogs and pigs, down 0.2% from a year ago and 1% from last quarter’s inventory, according to the latest Hogs and Pigs report published Thursday by the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. However, that figure came in 1.4 percentage points below pre-report expectations.
