The University of Colorado Boulder sent out a safety alert Monday morning regarding an alleged stabbing near Scott Carpenter Park at 1505 30th St. According to the alert, the victim claimed to have been stabbed by an individual on a bike path near the park before 11 a.m.The suspect is described as wearing a tribal-style mask and is possibly riding a bicycle, however, police have no further description at this time.

The University of Colorado Boulder’s student government finalized its tri-executive election with a controversial move by university administration. On May 2, the Office of Student Affairs sent out an email to student government officials and tri-executive candidates announcing that the Exel ticket would be in office for the 2024-25 academic year despite the ruling from student government courts disqualifying them.

The Asian American and Pacific Islander Student Club at the University of Colorado Boulder gathered on Saturday, May 11 to celebrate AAPI graduates with a small ceremony at the Koenig Alumni Center. CU Boulder alumni Nikhil Mankekar gave the commencement speech to graduates, friends and family highlighting the importance of community and authenticity.

Fourth and fifth graders will learn about water and conservation at this year’s Operation Water Festival from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 14 at the University of Colorado Boulder’s University Memorial Center, 1669 Euclid Ave. “Children deserve to understand and be inspired about the importance of our natural resources and how we can all work together to be good stewards of our environment,” Laurel Olsen, community engagement senior program manager for the city of Boulder, said in a statement.

Organizers of the Wish Ride of Colorado will host a live music event on May 11 in Frederick to raise awareness for its scheduled motorcycle and car ride on June 8 to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Colorado. The resident ospreys at the Boulder County Fairgrounds nest site finished laying their eggs for the season, to the delight of osprey camera viewers. “Oh happy day!” wrote one commenter after the female osprey finished laying her third and final egg on April 21. “Congrats Mom and Dad on egg (no.) 3,” wrote another. The resident osprey couple returned in late March to the nest monitored by a webcam at 1030 Boston Ave. The first egg appeared on April 12 with two more eggs laid on April 18 and April 21.

Organizers canceled the 2024 Ride The Rockies Bicycle Tour in mid-April due to low registration, but some members of Boulder County’s cycling community with close ties to the event say it faced challenges for several years. The mountainous bicycle tour ran for nearly four decades. This year’s event was scheduled for June 9 to 15 covering more than 400 miles of northwestern Colorado from Steamboat Springs to Fruita.

The Longmont nonprofit Colorado Horse Rescue debuted a new emergency horse transportation app to help people evacuate their horses in cases of natural disasters such as wildfires. The app connects volunteer drivers with people who need emergency evacuation help for their horses. The app is free for Colorado residents with funding from the Zarpet Family Foundation. The Boulder County Resource Conservation Division will hold a free compost workshop at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Longmont Public Library, 409 Fourth Ave. Master composter Melanie Nehls Burow will teach participants about backyard composting. Participants will learn how to get started, how to successfully maintain a compost bin, how to use the compost you create and how to troubleshoot your compost pile.
