The 102nd Student Senate met for the last time April 15 before officially transitioning into its 103rd year. As no unfinished business was scheduled for the quick meeting, both Executive President Chloe DeVries and Executive Vice President Lucas Prater took their time to say goodbye. During her report, DeVries said she and the rest of the executive board are grateful for the Senate members. “We really appreciate all the hard work you guys have put in this year,” DeVries said.

The Student Activities Council hosted its annual spring concert April 4; however, the attendance was notably lower than in previous years. Regardless of X Ambassadors’ higher follower count compared to some of the previous spring concert performers, the total number of audience members was nearly 50% lower than last year. SAC Co-Concert Director Ben Bueneman said this year, roughly 650 tickets were bought online and 50 bought at the door.

The final diversity, equity and inclusion reimagination student listening session was held during the April 8 Student Senate meeting. Within the listening session, Senate Executive President Chloe DeVries posed six questions open to all attendees of the meeting to answer. These questions, which were also asked at the previous two DEI student listening sessions, covered topics on supporting identity-based organizations and individuals from minority cultures.

Gathered by one event, first responders from across Nodaway County were able to see each other, putting faces to the voices they know from over the dispatch radio. The First Responders Banquet was hosted at 7 p.m. April 5 in the Mozingo Event Center. The banquet was largely organized by 911 emergency operator Shanley Muff. She said she wanted this event to create a community for those who speak to each other regularly on the job but do not necessarily see each other.

On a cold and rainy spring day, the Bearcat family both mourned and celebrated the life of former Northwest President Dean L. Hubbard. The day of events began at 10:30 a.m. April 4 in the Mary Linn Auditorium of the Ron Houston Performing Arts Center, where the public was welcomed to a celebration of life. Following this was a private lunch for the Hubbard family, of which many attended. To finish the day, a bell ringing ceremony was held at 1:30 p.m. at the Bell of ’48.
