A heat wave is sweeping across South Asia, with temperatures having reached 44°C in India’s Jaipur and 50°C in Pakistan’s Shaheed Benazirabad in April, Statista reports.
Experts warn that these conditions are becoming the “new normal” for the region. Where temperatures used to heat up from May and throughout June, such levels are now creeping earlier.
According to NASA, there is “unequivocal evidence that Earth is warming at an unprecedented rate”.

LGBT+ rights have come a long way since 1996, when the polling organization first started polling the topic. The news agency reports that the new figures add signs that drivers are turning away from Elon Musk’s electric car brand as competition from Chinese car manufacturers increases and some protest his political views. Tesla’s quarterly sales fell by around 62 percent in Germany, 55 percent in Sweden and Denmark, almost 50 percent in the Netherlands and 41 percent in France.

Global electricity demand from data centers is expected to more than double in the next five years, largely driven by the widespread uptake of AI. This is according to a report by the International Energy Agency (IEA), released on Thursday. By the end of the decade, around half of the global energy demand for data centers is expected to come from renewables, including solar PV, wind and hydro. Amnesty International recorded 1,518 executions under the death penalty worldwide in 2024, marking an increase of 32 percent since the year before when 1,153 people were put to death. This marks the highest execution level since 2015. Three countries – Iran, Iraq and Saudi Arabia – accounted for 91 percent of all known executions, together totalling 1,380. Egypt, Singapore and Yemen also recorded significant increases, while Somalia had a decrease.
