By 4:15 p.m., the ship's erratic signals indicated it was in southern Iran near the town of Bidkhun, before later placing it back and forth across the Gulf.

    Oil prices edged down on Monday, paring back Friday's 7 per cent surge, as renewed military strikes by Israel and Iran over the weekend left oil production and export facilities unaffected. Brent futures were down 93 cents, or around 1.3 per cent, to $73.30 a barrel by 1307 GMT, while U.S. WTI futures were off 99 cents or nearly 1.4per cent, to $71.99. Both benchmarks jumped more than $4 a barrel in Asian trading before giving back gains.

Brent crude futures fell $2.65, or 2.7%, to $71.58 a barrel by 11:05 a.m. ET (1506 GMT). U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures fell $2.71, or 3.7%, to $70.27 per barrel.
