    President Donald Trump has announced his business tariffs – and the UK is being charged 10 per cent from April 5, 2025. The UK hasn’t been hit as hard as other parts of the world, such as the EU, which has to pay a 20 per cent tariff. UK companies that export to the USA are going to be the most harshly affected. According to the BBC, the most widely sold exports are cars (£9 billion), medicines and pharmaceutical products (£6.6 billion) and mechanical power generators (£4.6 billion).

    Today is Spring Forecast, usually known as Spring Statement, day. As we’ve established, there’s not likely to be much for small businesses, especially after the tax hikes seen in last year’s Autumn Budget. That’s on top of the 6.7 per cent National Living Wage increase (for those over 21) which will be introduced on April 1. In fact, as the Treasury keeps stressing, there’s not much to expect at all, citing that it will be a “light scorecard” non-event.
