There will be two contested Georgetown City Council races on the May 3 ballot, based on candidacy filings submitted by the Feb. 14 deadline. Each of the three Georgetown ISD seats up for election will be uncontested, filing information shows. The detailsFive candidates have filed with the city to represent districts 3, 4 and 7 on City Council, according to a news release. District 3 incumbent Mike Triggs was originally elected in 2019 and did not file for re-election this year.

A new mixed-use development could come to downtown Georgetown after city officials approved a waiver allowing a proposed 3.5-story building to exceed downtown height restrictions. “This is a real exciting corridor [where] we’re seeing a lot of redevelopment,” Georgetown Planning Director Sofia Nelson said at a Dec. 10 City Council meeting.

Each month, thousands of pilots take off and land at the Georgetown Executive Airport, a facility servicing the city with private aviation since 1945. As the city grows, Airport Manager Matthew Sommerfeld is planning accordingly to keep the airport running. The big pictureTwenty-two businesses operate at the airport, which help service the roughly 345 airplanes based on the field, Sommerfeld said. Aircrafts range from single engine aircrafts to larger, corporate-style jet aircrafts, he said.
