There will be two contested Georgetown City Council races on the May 3 ballot, based on candidacy filings submitted by the Feb. 14 deadline. Each of the three Georgetown ISD seats up for election will be uncontested, filing information shows. A new mixed-use development could come to downtown Georgetown after city officials approved a waiver allowing a proposed 3.5-story building to exceed downtown height restrictions. “This is a real exciting corridor [where] we’re seeing a lot of redevelopment,” Georgetown Planning Director Sofia Nelson said at a Dec. 10 City Council meeting.

As the city grows, Airport Manager Matthew Sommerfeld is planning accordingly to keep the airport running.
