    London Lights There’s something about returning to London around December that fills me with delight. I love the subtle and understated Christmas lights in Soller and the lack of hysteria and bustle at Yuletide but there is something gloriously buzzy and exciting in the capital. The reason I was back in London was because I’d been voted one of ten winning crime authors in a film competition with a large online audience.

    As I ran along empty C’an Repic beach in Port Soller early yesterday morning, I stopped to admire the clarity of the glass-like water. Graceful ducks and seabirds glided along with a backdrop of craggy cliffs, the old Soller lighthouse and a never-ending bale of silky blue sea. There wasn’t a yacht or human in sight and boy, did I relish the peace. This is wintertime in Mallorca and all the visitors have left.

    Black comedy comes in many forms but surely it is at its bleakest and best with the current daily news bursts about inane TV offerings, I’m a Celeb and Strictly. Given the calamitous state of the world with the very real threat of WWIII heralded by an expert from NATO, coupled with Sweden and Germany dusting down their survival bunkers, the deliberate cynicism of the media is all too much.

    Racist Dogs in Wales How the media loved the earnest report issued by Climate Cymru BAME, advising the Welsh government to consider banning dogs from green spaces in Wales to combat racism. I hadn’t really considered whether dogs were racist or cats, for that matter, but thanks to this joyless Welsh think tank, now I know. Funnily enough, my hens do seem quite racist, and I have often taken them to task on the matter.
