How do you test for low stomach acid? A blood test can detect low iron and vitamin B12 levels, which may suggest low stomach acidity, as well as autoimmune conditions that cause it. One particular test measures levels of gastrin, a hormone that stimulates acid production, while an endoscopy can look at the stomach lining to check for signs of low acid, such as gastritis or damage.
