FORT WORTH – A Tarrant County jury sentenced Christopher Turner, 48, to death for executing a convenience store owner during a robbery a trial last week. Tarrant County Assistant District Attorneys Charles Boulware and Allenna Bangs represented the state. As Bangs on Wednesday asked the jury to give the victim’s family justice, Turner tried to hold up a sign to the jury.

Despite challenging weather conditions including rain and rough seas offshore, the 37th Annual OC Tuna Tournament proved to be a success. This year, 51 boats vied for a total prize pool of $648,270. Weigh-ins were hosted at the Ocean City Fishing Center last Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On day one, 25 boats braved the weather offshore. Cabana came in the lead with the heaviest tuna stringer, weighing at 218 pounds. Additionally, Shorebilly caught the heaviest single bluefin tuna at 168 pounds.

Ocean City held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction for the Ocean City Police Department’s downtown substation. Mayor Rick Meehan, council members, representatives from the police department, representatives from the Ocean City Development Corporation and other officials gathered for the event. Officials dug their shovels into the dirt to represent the beginning of the new project, accompanied by many smiles and applause.
