The Blue Ridge HealthCare Foundation continues a tradition this year with the Lights of Love event, set for Thursday, Dec. 5, at 5:30 p.m. at UNC Health Blue Ridge – Valdese hospital. The event will feature the lighting of the Lights of Love Christmas tree in the lobby and outdoors. Throughout part of October and November, the foundation sold symbolic lights in honor or in memory of friends, family members and loved ones to raise money.

Morganton's UNC Health Blue Ridge will open its new Emergency Department on Tuesday with a new entrance for the public seeking emergency care. If you have an emergency, follow the signs on the main drive for "EMERGENCY" by merging right as you approach the hospital. Once you merge right, follow the signs to the Emergency Department parking lot at our new East Tower. You will park in the Emergency parking lot and enter through the double doors.

The grant will help UNC Health Blue Ridge expand services, improve access to care and elevate the quality of health care for community members throughout the region.

UNC Health Blue Ridge was awarded The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Hospital Accredidation for demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care. UNC Health Blue Ridge underwent an unannounced onsite review on March 19 to 22.

Pete’s fans might find it groovy; anyone else has plenty of other “12 Days of Christmas” variants to choose among Pete, the cat who couldn’t care less, celebrates Christmas with his inimitable lassitude. If it weren’t part of the title and repeated on every other page, readers unfamiliar with Pete’s shtick might have a hard time arriving at “groovy” to describe his Christmas celebration, as the expressionless cat displays not a hint of groove in Dean’s now-trademark illustrations.
