This year, we begin with a focus on accountability for general-purpose AI (GPAI) producers. Also called a foundation model, a GPAI refers to an AI model or system capable of performing a wide range of cognitive tasks that’s easily integrated into various downstream systems or applications.1 Generative AI models that can be adapted and used across a variety of applications are considered GPAI systems.
