With the passage of Amendment 79 in November, Colorado voters enshrined the right to abortion in the state constitution. The amendment solidifies the state’s status as one of the most liberal in the country on the issue. It is a status that has been challenged over and over. Since the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court ruling, Coloradans have voted on ten abortion ballot measures – nearly one-sixth of all of the abortion-related ballot measures across the country.

It's been nearly two years since the Supreme Court announced its Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization ruling overturning federal protection for the right to an abortion, marking a momentous victory for anti-abortion activists. That decision was just the beginning - some anti-abortion groups, like Students for Life of America and the National Right to Life, would go on to advocate, in many cases successfully, for anti-abortion laws in every state.
