    Saturday’s West Suburban Irish Naperville St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Naperville is a true community event, featuring more than 3,000 participants and typically bringing out about 10,000 spectators. But this year it will be marching on without its founding father, Kevin Dolan, who died Feb. 25 at age 86. The loss weighs heavy on their hearts, parade chair Rich Janor said, but the West Suburban Irish will present an event fitting of his memory.

    College of DuPage’s 29th annual Global Flicks film series, featuring a slate of community-chosen and timely films, kicks off Wednesday with a showing of the British film, “Wicked Little Letters.”Every Wednesday thereafter through March 12, an international film will be screened publicly for free at 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the Belushi Performance Hall in the McAninch Arts Center on the college’s Glen Ellyn campus.

    Student performances in drama and music — plus an annual crowd-pleasing event for children with special needs — are among the highlights of the spring 2025 season at North Central College in Naperville. “The 39 Steps” will be staged in February, followed by “Assassins” in March and “The Serpent Lady” in April. All are productions of North Central’s Department of Theatre, helmed by Chair Laura Lodewyck.

    Acclaimed opera singer Richard Ollarsaba returns to The Mac this New Year’s Eve for a series of concerts with New Philharmonic. New Philharmonic, the professional orchestra in residence at the McAninch Arts Center at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, presents concerts at 1:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Dec. 31. The 1:30 p.m. performance is sold out. The program will feature works ranging from classical to opera to pops, music director/conductor Kirk Muspratt said.
