    It’s been roughly thirty years since dance music went fully mainstream here in the UK. I belong to a generation of people who grew up with clubbing as part of their social evolution; as a bookmark to end the week and start the weekend, as a space to let loose and forget about their jobs and dance the week away. I’ve been DJ-ing in clubs for over twenty years.

    I write novels. I DJ. I interview people. I’m interested in how we change.  Let me begin with a story. Last month I went away with two friends to the port of Soller in Majorca for the weekend. We rented an apartment half way up a hill at the quiet end of the bay. This was our view from the balcony. On the Saturday morning I woke early and walked down to the beach for a swim. It was a warm windless morning, the water was calm, the swim was glorious. Afterwards, I sat on a sun lounger to dry off.

    1. Don’t exercise to be thin. Exercise to be strong.  2. The best place for ideas is alone and on the move. 3. Start or end every day with writing about your life. There’s always something buried underneath the to do list in your head, something you didn’t realise you felt, that when written down, will make everything clearer. 4. Relationships are like weighing scales. You either bring your partner up, or weigh them down.
