Robin Smith was the best teacher I ever knew. A nationally known writer and children’s book committee member, she was committed to books as the heart of her teaching. At the beginning of The House Before Falling into the Sea, we don’t know why large groups of people are fleeing their homes on foot, but they all seem to have one destination: a house at the tip of a rocky peninsula that juts out into a choppy sea. The eponymous “house before falling into the sea” is where a young girl named Kyung lives with her mother and father.
