Ridley Scott’s twenty-four-year-old modern classic, “Gladiator,” succeeded due to an impeccable cast, a powerful screenplay (courtesy of David Franzoni, William Nicholson, and John Logan), and some of the best filmmaking of Scott’s career. The picture went on to win five Oscars, including Best Picture and a Best Actor win for its lead and solidified Sir Ridley’s prowess at crafting artful historical dramas with bold action set pieces.

He helmed remakes of two seventies horror classics (Wes Craven’s “The Hills Have Eyes” and Joe Dante’s “Piranha”), making each film seem fresh and fun.

In “Look Into My Eyes,” director Lana Wilson observes her subjects (a small group of New York City psychics and clairvoyants and their clients) with a non-judgemental attitude. As many doubt the validity of the profession, those who claim to be able to communicate with the dead are often the victims of ridicule. Wilson does not set out to craft a disrespectful exposé that questions these individuals’ motives and abilities. The filmmaker has empathy for the seven psychics found within the piece.
