It’s the year of the rabbit in more ways than one. First, the debut recording from the Arlington rock outfit Playtime Rabbit came out 15 years ago, when the bandmembers were late teenagers fresh out of high school. They yanked Year of the Rabbit a while back but reposted the EP onto Bandcamp just recently. “Some of the songs seemed a bit naïve in nature,” said 30-year-old Chris Bell, who fronts the band with younger brother Jordan Bell on drums and Jordan Oliver Hall on bass.

As tens of thousands of protesters rallied in 1,200 cities and towns nationwide last Saturday as part of Hands Off — including in Denton, Arlington, Dallas, Frisco, and *checks notes* Burleson and Flower Mound (?!) — downtown Fort Worth remained conspicuously empty. Fort Worth’s aligned groups — Indivisible 12, Indivisible FWA (Fort Worth Area), and 50-50-1 — were not able to acquire permits in time.

As part of our errand-running weekend routine, my seventh-grader and I sometimes like to stop for a bite, and even though they’re out of season, technically, oysters have been eating up a huge amount of space in our brains. And I’m not sure why because every place we’ve tried not named Walloon’s has let us down with mealy, sometimes even hard, chewy oysters. Like chicken fingers.

While our elected officials are out to transform our democracy into an orange autocracy, it’s nice to know that most of us are not falling for their b.s.A grand jury recently dealt a blow to the nanny state (“Nanny State on Patrol,” Jan 22) by siding with Art-with-a-capital-A. Earlier this year, Fort Worth police confiscated several artworks from the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth under the allegation the pieces were pornographic and represented “child abuse.” They are not and do not.
