The government has said it is not scrapping 1p and 2p coins but will not be ordering any new ones this year. When I wrote this piece five years ago the 1p piece was already the least valuable British coin there had ever been. https://t.co/GBZdtkF1A0

In case interest rates go up today, remember that a rise from 0.1% to 0.25% would be an increase of 0.15 percentage points or 150% and not 0.15%.
