Romania held a re-run of the first round of the presidential elections yesterday. The original first round, held on 24 November 2024, was cancelled – along with the entire electoral process at the time. The official reason for the cancellation was foreign (specifically Russian) interference in the elections. Beyond the façade of an alleged response to Russian political warfare, however, it was evident that the real reason for the cancellation was the outcome itself: the wrong candidate had won.
