Griffith was last year sentenced to life in prison with a non-parole period of 27 years after pleading guilty to more than 300 charges in daycares in Brisbane and Italy over a period spanning almost two decades. He is not eligible to apply for parole until 2049.

A review into the safety of homeschooling in Queensland has found 35 cases of children living in high-risk environments. The Queensland Family and Child Commission (QFCC) review involved matching data from the education and child safety departments and police to find the number of incidents recorded between between 2021 and 2023 in a sample of 500 children.

Repairs are underway after a pipe containing raw human sewage burst about 60 metres beneath the Brisbane River. Urban Utilities said all human waste was contained within an underground tunnel and none of the untreated effluent had leaked into the river itself. The amount of oxycodone Australians are using has almost halved after national changes to packaging and prescription rules were brought in, a new study detecting opioid levels in wastewater has found. The study analysed 6,900 samples from more than 50 wastewater treatment plants, capturing data from 50 per cent of the Australian population, between April 2017 and April 2023.
