The perfect white guy exists. Who knew? His name is Tim Walz and our Madame Vice President found him! To be honest, I had given up on American politics and mentally preparing for a second Trump presidency. It was killing me slowly inside. The Harris-Walz ticket is making me remember how much I love analyzing the politics of race and gender. And what we are witnessing now is history I thought maybe America could not be ready for.

Having written an entire book on the difference in how we view pain in men vs. in women, aka #ThePainGap, I thought it was impossible to shock me further about how we generally accept women’s discomfort over men’s. New Year, New Look! Welcome to the revamped AnushayHossain.com. I’m thrilled to finally unveil my upgraded website, marking a significant moment as I embark on exciting new projects. It’s the last day of the year and in many parts of the world, it’s already 2024. There’s always such an emphasis on ending the year “strong” in the U.S., that even thinking about it this year exhausts me. Normally, I’d be the first to be determined to get to the finish line and be the first to do everything AND “finish strong.”But no más. I came across the following IG post and it actually made me stop. This post made me consciously shift my perspective.

If you had told me as a young girl that I would have a career in women’s health, I would’ve disagreed. Growing up in Bangladesh in the 1980s, maternal mortality and infant deaths were soaring. In my mind, healthcare was not something American women were fighting for. But flash-forward to today, American women are struggling for reproductive rights while Bangladesh is considered the poster child for reducing maternal deaths.

This article from the NYT on the unnecessary and horrific levels of pain too many women are expected to endure while getting an IUD inserted, is frankly, infuriating. It reports that about 20 percent of women relied on an IUD between 2015 and 2019, up from the 8 percent who used one between 2006 and 2010.
