19-year-old Michael Foy joined the Munster Rugby Academy last summer. The Cork native began his playing career in Carrigaline RFC at age four before making the move to Cork Constitution to play amongst the age-grade ranks. Over the past two seasons Foy has played in back-to-back Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup finals with Christian Brothers College. The 19-year-old represented Ireland U19s last season, starting against France in a 19-10 win in April.

The rugby careers of Lynne Cantwell, Marcus Horan and Donncha O’Callaghan will be celebrated at a special event next month. Rugby Players Ireland is delighted to announce that Lynne Cantwell, Marcus Horan, and Donncha O’Callaghan will be inducted into the Heineken Rugby Players Ireland Hall of Fame next month. First presented in 2003, the illustrious group includes an array of Irish Rugby legends with Shane Horgan and Alison Miller its most recent inductees.

We spoke to new signing Tom Farrell as he settles in to life at Munster after making the move down from Connacht. Farrell joins Munster on a two-year deal after a very successful seven years at Connacht where he scored 21 tries in 112 appearances. A former Ireland U20 international, he joined Connacht from Bedford Blues in 2017 and quickly became a key member of their squad. A creative midfielder with good offloading skills, Farrell earned a call-up to the Ireland squad for the 2019 Six Nations.

This initiative is aimed at creating a more inclusive environment for rugby players and spectators with sensory sensitivities, providing a vital resource for Clubs and provincial teams across the country.

There were five Munster players in action for their clubs last weekend as round two of the All Ireland League took place. After a loss to old rivals Terenure the previous week Cork Constitution turned things around to defeat Ballynahinh 51-21 in Temple Hill. Hooker Scott Buckley was one of the top try scorers on the day as he crashed over twice. Elsewhere in Division 1A George Hadden and Gordon Wood lined our for Garryowen with Wood scoring a try in the process.

There were plenty of Munster senior and Academy players in AIL action last weekend with 10 players lining out for their clubs. Cork Constitution were on the road for the first time this season as they travelled to Lakelands Park to take on Terenure in a repeat of last season’s final. Having only recently returned from a stint in Australia Munster hooker Scott Buckley was one of the try scorers in their 25-15 loss. Mark Donnelly was also named in the Cork side.

Munster secured their first win of the URC season as they overcame Connacht 35-33. There were tries from Alex Nankivell, Mike Haley, John Hodnett, Gavin Coombes and Shane Daly with conversions from Billy Burns and Tony Butler. Read the match report in full here. Munster Rugby is currently inviting applications for the role of MTU Cork Rugby Officer. The post holder is required to facilitate the development of rugby at MTU Cork by working with the student clubs (men’s and women’s) to increase participation and sporting opportunities at performance and recreational levels. The position is being offered on a temporary basis for 25 hours/week, for a duration of 30 weeks based at MTU Cork.
