Looking at this trilogy from a tea lens, all I see is tea and—liberally sprinkled lessons: “don’t call it high tea, it’s afternoon tea" (China Rich Girlfriend); an explanation of Singapore’s afternoon tea customs; or references to uber luxe teaware and tea stores. What I loved most was the matching of the right tea with the right character.

New Delhi, Nov. 24 -- I have always enjoyed making booklists once a year, scanning award lists for old favourites as much as new authors . Nowadays the end of the year has me making a similar list for tea. This month, the Leafies, an international tea award organised by the UK Tea Academy in collaboration with department store Fortnum & Mason, were announced. Around 400 entries received were blind tasted by a global jury.

In 2011, he created a tea sommelier course for the International Tea Masters Association. As students began to arrive at Guwahati (where he lives) from across the world to learn about tea, he saw it as an opportunity to keep up his own education.

There is a new event to add to the annual coffee calendar and that’s the India International Coffee Festival. The Coffee Board of India is gearing up to present the first edition of the festival, scheduled for 13-15 Dec 2024, at the Bangalore Palace. The earlier version of this festival was smaller in scale and held biannually since 2008.

Like so many fans, I heard about the rooibos from The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith whose protagonist Mma Ramotswe favours it greatly. It’s also known as the bush tea and is a South African speciality. While it doesn’t belong to the Camellia sinensis family, like tea, it goes through a few stages of processing before it’s ready. It also lends itself to blending but unlike tea, it’s caffeine-free.
