A freight line that runs right through city neighborhoods is quite unusual. The Chicago and Evanston Line (C&E Line), better known as the Milwaukee Road that ran through Lincoln Park and Lakeview going north, is being removed. Freight lines running inside urban landscapes like this are unusual, and it tells a very particular Chicago history of the surrounding industry that dates back to the 1800s. These tracks also tell the history of the ‘L’ lines of Chicago as well.
