There’s something inherently dangerous about traveling alone across the country. America is wide, vast, and in many ways experiencing a constitutional crisis. Throw in the added layers of being female and Black while venturing into an assumedly ‘white’ activity, like hiking, and it’s enough to give most people pause. But then I remembered that, firstly, more women are opting to travel solo across the globe, especially Black women, despite fears of being unsafe or unwelcome.

Part 1: The US Constitution We at the Amsterdam News wanted to take a second to talk about the United States Constitution, one of the most influential and “living” legal documents in the world. For the history buffs, prior to the establishment of the U.S. Constitution, the governing legal document for states was called the Articles of Confederation — ratified in 1781. The current one was signed by state delegates in 1787.
