Our Director for Freedom of Speech and Academic Freedom gives an overview of the background and key changes to legislation, and next steps for our regulation of freedom of speech. Earlier this year, the government announced decisions on the implementation of the Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Act 2023. We welcomed the decision to go ahead with measures to protect and promote freedom of speech and academic freedom.
