Jhansi: The Special District EC Act court judge, Bhartendra Singh on Saturday sentenced a 29-year-old woman to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs twenty thousand on Saturday for killing both her daughters by strangulation in Jalaun district. According to DGC (Crime) Lakhan Lal Niranjan, the incident took place on August 28, 2020, in village Chirakali under Kotra police station of the district.

Nihal Verma, 19, has been in Jhansi district jail since June 2024 for charges under the Pocso Act. He scored 325 out of 500 marks in the humanities stream in the intermediate exams.

Jhansi: Panic erupted on Saturday evening after smoke was seen rising from the terrace of the children's ward at the district hospital. The blaze was brought under control, and there were no injuries reported. The incident occurred when smoke was noticed coming from the terrace of the children's ward, which soon developed into a fire. The hospital staff responded quickly with firefighting equipment, and a fire tender arrived shortly thereafter.
