URBANA- The Champaign County Regional Planning Commission is asking residents to submit photos of streets, roads and sidewalks that they consider to have an unsafe design. The organization is running an online survey through June 27 where community members can upload photos of dangerous corridors. Matt Raab with the regional planning commission said that could mean a lack of street lighting, poorly maintained sidewalks, or unmarked pedestrian crossings.

Tens of thousands of students, friends and families filled into Memorial Stadium Saturday morning for the Class of 2025 commencement ceremony. U of I Chancellor Robert Jones told the graduates he’s excited to see where their journeys will take them.

There’s growing concerns in Piatt County about the number of cases of glioblastoma, a rare but deadly brain cancer. Community members say the Illinois Department of Public Health has been slow to investigate the possible cancer cluster in Monticello. That’s led advocates to begin collecting data on their own — prompting a new response from state officials. A team of student journalists with CU Citizen Access have been following the public health concerns in Piatt County.

Carle Health plans to close down most of its Health Alliance insurance plans by the end of the year. The Urbana-based hospital system announced Tuesday that both Health Alliance and its sister company FirstCarolinaCare will cease operations at the start of 2026.
