The South Caucasus nation would also have to pay much more for Russian energy resources and food, he said.

    The government backed a bill on the “start of a process of Armenia's accession to the European Union” drafted by several pro-Western political and civic groups. Those groups largely loyal to Pashinian collected last year 60,000 signatures in support of their demands for a referendum on joining the EU. Armenian law requires the country’s parliament to formally debate the resulting bill.

    The Armenian government said on Wednesday that it has told a private entertainment company to return almost $6 million in government funding it received in 2023 to organize U.S. rapper Snoop Dogg’s concert in Yerevan that never took place. The concert was originally scheduled for September 23, 2023. It was cancelled two days after Azerbaijan launched on September 19, 2023 a military offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh that forced the region’s entire population to flee to Armenia.
