St. Paul’s Janie Ford ended her high school career with a bang in Day 3 of the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships, breaking the Class 7A state meet 200-meter record. She set the mark at 23.58 in Friday’s prelims and broke it with a blistering 23.34 in the finals on Saturday. The 200-meter record came moments after the Vanderbilt University-bound Ford, who won the 100-meter hurdles easily with a time of 14.13, blazed to a state-meet record 41.43.

St. Paul’s Janie Ford led a slew of strong performances with two meet records in Day 2 of the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Class 4A-7A Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores on Friday. Ford, a Vanderbilt University signee, broke the Class 7A state meet record in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 4 ½ inches, breaking the old record of 19-9 ½ set in 2018.

Strong performances marked Day 1 of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Outdoor Track & Field Championships for Classes 4A-7A at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores on Thursday. Several records were broken during the preliminary rounds of the Class 7A 100-meter dashes. Although wind-aided, the times were still impressive. In Class 7A boys, Fairhope’s Ty Watkins led all qualifiers with a 10.33 second clocking, under the old record of 10.49.

St. Paul’s senior Janie Ford made sure her last home meet was one to remember. The Vanderbilt-bound star captured Outstanding Female Meet Performer honors in Saturday’s Elite Division of the Mobile Challenge of Champions held at St. Paul’s E.E. Delaney Stadium, and she did it with style in windy conditions. Ford won the 100 meters in a wind-aided 11.68 seconds, the 100-meter hurdles in 14.50 and the long jump (18 feet, 6 ¾ inches).

A 1-3 finish in the javelin from Ethan Shareck and Dawson Towne helped Fairhope to a team win in the boys’ division of the 23rd annual Lyon Newell Throws meet held at Erwin S. Cooper Stadium on Wednesday. The Lyon Newell Throws Meet, a meet held for charity, is held every year in honor of Lyon Newell, a standout athlete and 1998 graduate of UMS-Wright, who died in 2002.
