    We’ve very often called cars ‘mad’. To say that they’re ‘mad’ fast, ‘mad’ spacious, ‘mad’ on technology — tells you it’s bringing something new to the table or pushes the boundaries of what’s acceptable. By that definition, Mahindra’s XEV 9e is certifiably mad. But what really makes this package shine, is the ‘method’ to the madness. To BE or not to BEQuite a few heads very surely scratched at Mahindra HQ, figuring out what to call this thing. It does not fall into their new baby brand ‘BE’.

    ‘That's a what, now?’ — my first reaction when I saw the Dzire via some blurry spy pics shot on a potato camera. Hints of another Japanese automaker, yes. Some German influence, sure. But anything shared with the younger Swift? NONE! If nothing else, Maruti Suzuki has surely been bold to take this step. The CultMaruti was quick to point out that the Dzire is the fourth highest selling car in India — OF ALL TIME. Every second compact sedan sold in the country is a Dzire. That’s no mean feat.

    For someone who’s now in the 30 year old club, I wasn’t surprised that the Kia Carnival seemed like a very very appealing machine. The way it looks, the features it has on offer and the tech simply made the process easier. It was the asking price of nearly Rs 75 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), however, that got the jaw to drop firmly. Sure, it’s a whole lot of car for the money in the literal sense. But is it really?
