“He was fine. Not a lot happened with it. He was on defense in overtime, too, but I mean, like I said, he’s a smart player. He knows how to play the position and understands the game extremely well,” Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube said of Marner’s stint on defence. Marner is being asked to make the spectacular look routine, but it’s clear that his teammates appreciate his willingness to do anything to help the Maple Leafs win.

There are still some issues for the Toronto Maple Leafs to work out before the playoffs, but Mitch Marner has been a constant force and delivered in the clutch once again this season. Marner scored the overtime winner, the lone goal of the evening, leading the Maple Leafs to a 1-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens . Montreal would’ve clinched its playoff berth with a victory and will have to wait another day before the seemingly inevitable will occur.

Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz is the projected starter for Saturday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens. Stolarz won his past six starts, posting a 19-8-3 record in 32 appearances with a .922 save percentage. The 31-year-old will likely be the Maple Leafs’ playoff starter although head coach Craig Berube has not formally made a declaration. Joseph Woll will likely start Sunday’s contest against the Carolina Hurricanes as a result.

RT @TLNdc: 7 takeaways from Leafs-Lightning: Knies delivers signature game in most important win of year https://t.co/su4YFwUIRr

Matthew Knies: three goals, six shots, one penalty drawn, 76 percent share of the expected goals at 5-on-5, almost pulled off one of the assists of the year and walks it off anyways. What a god damn amazing performance.

We'll see how it holds up but Simon Benoit is quietly putting together a nice string of games, he's been great at denying Brayden Point entries, he's entering the rush without sacrificing positioning, let's hope it carries into the playoffs.
