Columbia Bhangra, Columbia University’s competitive bhangra team, hosted its annual Bhangra in the Heights event on March 30 in Roone. But the annual showcase was no longer just a showcase—instead, the event took on the title of the only bhangra competition in New York City. With eight performances, representation from seven regions, and only one first-place winner, BHeights XVII was an evening filled with dance, tradition, and community.

Walls adorned with pictures of Columbia Bhangra and light-up letters spelling out “BHEIGHTS” surrounded the seats of Roone Arledge Auditorium. As the melodies of music rang throughout, the audience’s excited chatter filled the rest of the auditorium.
