As temperatures soared into the high 80s over the weekend, the Heads in the Clouds (HITC) Festival emerged as the ultimate destination to kick off summer festivities and showcase some of Asia’s most iconic performers. However, the celebration of its 10th anniversary received mixed reactions from fans. Despite several challenges, my two-day experience at the festival was undoubtedly memorable. Here are five things I loved about Head In The Clouds 2025 and five things that needed improvement.

The first words that greeted me as I stepped into Jensen McRae‘s concert at the El Rey on Wednesday night were, “Would you like a mask?” Clusters of black N95 masks were handed out by workers as eager concert-goers streamed into the storied Los Angeles music venue, excited to hear the folk alternative pop singer with the hauntingly soft yet gritty alto voice and forget about their worries. Inside, the temperature felt 10 degrees cooler than outside on Wilshire Blvd.

“Lovely Day” by Bill Withers played softly as voices chattered and people filled the seats in the terracotta and butterscotch-colored amphitheater, home to the Walt Disney Concert Hall. It was Friday night, and the main attraction was multi-platinum-selling singer, songwriter, composer, producer, music director, and world-class jazz pianist Patrice Rushen. “Dorothy from the ‘Wizard of Oz’ was right: there’s no place like home,” Patrice exclaimed.
