Longtime Vancouver politician Don Davies has been selected as the interim leader of the New Democratic Party. The move comes after former leader Jagmeet Singh’s resignation following the NDP’s disappointing federal election results on April 28. In a press release, the NDP states that the party will begin reconnecting with working people, and renewing its commitment to Canadians.

In 2021, Aaron Beaumont decided it was time to create more queer connections in New Brunswick. While doing their undergrad at St. Thomas University in Fredericton, Beaumont’s work in fat studies led them to learn more about fat activism online. After realizing that most groups were based in the U.S., and the few Canadian groups that existed were decidedly not in New Brunswick, Beaumont took matters into their own hands.

This election and the events leading up to it have been some of the most dramatic in recent memory. The road leading us to this day began back in January, with the resignation of Justin Trudeau as prime minister and leader of the Liberal Party. After 10 years in power, Trudeau had become deeply unpopular with Pierre Poilievre and his Conservative Party leading the Liberals in the polls at that time by nearly 20 points.

The dissolution of the cabinet position for the Ministry of Women and Gender Equality and Youth has some feminist not-for-profits worried about their role in combatting women’s issues. Upon taking office on March 14, Liberal leader Mark Carney eliminated various roles. One of these included Marci Ien’s previous position in the cabinet as the Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth, which has existed in different iterations since 1971.
