AbstractQuantum-confined nanoclusters can be described by the jellium model, which emphasizes closed-shell electron configurations, but an open-shell variation with jellium aromaticity has been proposed. Such clusters are termed superatoms because they behave like an atom, and they exhibit unusual properties.
