Two months ago, a man named Mr. Beasley was driving on a highway in Virginia when he noticed a furry lump on the side of the road. Everyone else zoomed past the ball of fluff without stopping to investigate, but Mr. Beasley sensed that something was seriously wrong. The driver swiftly pulled over and soon discovered an injured raccoon who was unable to move. That’s when he called Evelyn’s Wildlife Refuge (EWR). “[N]o doubt, others [had] seen her laying there,” EWR wrote on Facebook.

When a series of tornadoes ripped through St. Louis, Missouri, earlier this month, most residents ran inside to shelter from the devastation. But one soul was left to fend for herself outside while trees crashed around her. Shortly after the storm cleared, neighbors heard cries coming from a pile of downed trees and soon discovered a sweet but terrified pup in the rubble. They called Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL) for help, and a team of rescuers rushed to the scene.

The staff at Dekalb Humane Society (DHS) are used to rescuing animals in various states of need and promising them a chance at love. But recently, they’ve taken in a tiny, scrunkly baby who doesn’t quite fit in with the rest of the DHS crew. Meet Sewer Rat: a disheveled-looking cat whose unique appearance has everyone at DHS reeling. “He’s a kitten. Allegedly,” DHS wrote on Facebook.

Days before Halloween last year, the folks at Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL) came across an eerie sight in their community. While driving through a residential neighborhood, they discovered a dark figure with a strange posture staring at them. “He was hunched up like a little gargoyle …” SRSL wrote on Facebook. At a glance, the curious animal could’ve been mistaken for a Halloween decoration — but the SRSL rescuers instantly knew he was a pup who needed help.
