It’s been a hot time for new bike computer launches lately, but we’re still awaiting new Garmin Edge 850 and 550 models – the GPS giant’s smaller-sized computers would replace the Edge 840 and 540. First came the Garmin Edge 1050 in summer 2024, followed by Wahoo’s latest flagship unit, the Elemnt Ace, in December 2024.

The Colnago V5Rs has launched as the successor to the brand’s most successful race bike ever. Of course, you could (rightly, in my view) argue that Tadej Pogačar and his UAE Team Emirates XRG teammates are the main reason for the success of the V4Rs. However, the old bike is certainly a hard act to follow – it made our 2023 Bike of the Year shortlist, in a particularly strong year for the race bike category.

Wahoo has launched the Trackr Radar – the brand’s first rear view vehicle detection system. In a similar vein to Garmin’s Varia radar products, it’s designed to pair with the brand’s own bike computers – although Wahoo says it will also work with “other compatible Bluetooth or ANT+ bike computers."Wahoo has yet to confirm an on-sale date, but says the unit will cost £179.99 / $199.99 / €199.99/ AU$349.95 when it does become available.

Specialized has updated its road tyre line-up for 2025, claiming the new tyres are faster, grippier and more puncture-resistant than ever before, with the RapidAir TLR billed as the lightest production tubeless road tyre in the world. The new RapidAir TLR tops the line-up as a dedicated race tyre, with an updated S-Works Turbo TLR replacing the S-Works Turbo 2BR.

Specialized has revamped its line-up of gravel tyres, with a redesigned Pathfinder and Tracer, as well as a new tyre, the Terra, to replace the Rhombus. We gave you a glimpse of the new Tracer when we spotted it on Sofía Gómez Villafañe's Specialized Crux at the Arizona Belgian Waffle Ride, and it has now been released officially. The Pathfinder will make gravel racers sit up and take note, too.

Finger dexterity is a real high point, as is the competitive price versus the competition. They’re not perfect, and the slim-fingered fit might not suit everyone, but these Altura gloves are well worth considering among more expensive, big-brand options.

SQUIRREL_13193545The Castelli Espresso 2 gloves feature great fabrics, which worked very well to keep my hands dry and warm in testing. They’re also decently water-resistant, although flaws include a loose-feeling liner and finger seams that can snag on shifter levers (albeit your hand shape and the fit will influence this). You also need to pay a relatively high price of £100 / $100 / €100 for them, compared to some of the best winter gloves.

The Gore Gore-Tex Insulated Gloves are best suited to cold and dry weather. I found them warm, breathable and highly dextrous, which helps with using lever controls. They’re also PFC/PFAS-free, albeit in line with Gore’s specific definition. While their waterproofing level is a slight weakness, and the sizing needs to be considered carefully, these winter gloves perform very well in the face of most deep-winter conditions.

SQUIRREL_13193547The Assos Ultraz Winter Gloves perform like premium winter gloves should – they’re strongly water-resistant, highly breathable (in the right conditions) and warm. They also have an appealingly low-profile construction, which aids dexterity, and I found them comfortable to wear. However, overall, there are better-value winter gloves to be had. While the Assos Ultraz gloves perform well, the price tag feels a bit too high given the competency of cheaper rivals.

SQUIRREL_13084811The Vittoria RideArmor TLR is a good winter and training tyre, impressing with its strong puncture protection. A range of seven size options means you can strike the best balance of comfort, grip and weight for you, although it’s a little heavier than the competition across the board. Weight isn’t the be-all-and-end-all, though, and if you’re willing to put up with a (relatively) challenging installation experience, the RideArmor TLR is an appealing fit-and-forget all-season tyre.
