SCHENECTADY — City officials and community leaders are criticizing what they see as efforts to keep two incumbent council members, who both come from marginalized communities, away from the city council primary. The criticisms, lodged at a press conference at City Hall on Tuesday, come one day after the county Board of Elections issued a ruling denying city council members Marion Porterfield and Damonni Farley spots on the ballot for June's city council primary.

When Tristin Keough began working in 2011 as a care professional for Home Instead, her employers were flexible about her work schedule to help accommodate the young mom in her personal and professional life. Almost 14 years later, she said her workplace continues to provide that support to have a fulfilling job. "They worked with my schedule so that way I could have a job, have an income, but also be home for my children when I needed to be," Keough said.

COLONIE - The family of a 49-year-old woman who was hit and killed Monday by a car on Route 9 is asking for donations through GoFundMe to help cover funeral costs and daily living expenses. For more than 16 years, Felipa Martinez-Garcia had walked the path along Route 9 to her job at the McDonald's in Latham Farms Shopping Center. Regardless of the weather, she walked that route every day to work and never missed a shift.
