The 111th Grey Cup, set to draw crows to BC Place in Vancouver, will be either a story of redemption or doubling down as the culmination of the latest CFL season brings a final match between Toronto and Winnipeg. The Argonauts, who upset the Blue Bombers 24-23 in the 2022 championship, have 15 players who have played in a Grey Cup. Of those, only three have played in two or more.

The race is too close to call. There appears to be no clear winner in Saturday's provincial election – at least for now – with the leadership race remaining neck-and-neck between B.C. NDP Leader David Eby and Conservative Leader John Rustad. As of 11 p.m. PST, neither party had secured the 47 ridings needed to form a majority government in the 93-seat legislature.

Across the province, hundreds of thousands of British Columbians took to the polls Saturday to cast their vote to determine who will lead the province for the next four years. Oct. 19's voting day marks the first provincial election with new riding boundaries, which increased the number of seats in the legislature to 93 from 87. This is the province's 43rd election.

2 wildfires spark on opposite sides of Burns Lake

Wildfire crews are battling two new blazes sparked on Thursday afternoon (Aug. 8) near Burns Lake. The first, which was reported at 4 p.m. and visible from Highway 16, is burning 21 kilometres east of the town. It is estimated to be less than one hectare in size. At 6 p.m. a second fire was spotted 19 kilometres northwest of Burns Lake. Air tankers and helicopters with buckets are tackling both blazes, BC Wildfire Service said that night.
Tornado warning issued for northern central Alberta

Residents in northern central Alberta are being warned to brace for a possible tornado amid severe thunderstorms in the region. The tornado warning was announced at 4:52 p.m. MST by Environment Canada, impacting the areas of Fort Saskatchewan and Northern Strathcona County. "Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible," the warning reads. Those in the area are being urged to take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
