Eating, talking, texting and reaching for items in a moving vehicle are among the top actions that motorists might make while driving. These actions distract motorists from their most important task: safely operating a motor vehicle. “According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), distracted driving killed 3,522 people in 2021 making it one of the top behaviors responsible for most crashes,” said PennDOT District 9 safety press officer Monica Owens.

The Huntingdon County Salvation Army wrapped up its Christmas assistance program with distribution of food baskets and gifts for families in need Thursday morning. With several snowstorms in the county each winter, PennDOT District 9’s main goal is to keep the roads passable and safe for motorists.
