The 33-year-old joins Justice Richard Bernstein as a fellow Jewish appellate judge in Michigan state courts. Judge Matthew Ackerman took a chance at “throwing his hat in the ring” when a rare, almost unheard of seat opened for a Second District judge on the Michigan Court of Appeals. Yet taking a leap of faith was quickly worth the effort. After a successful campaign, Ackerman was elected to a six-year term on the Michigan Court of Appeals in November 2024.
