    The Pigeon Point Lighthouse’s historic Fresnel lens, a nine-foot-tall marvel of more than 1,000 glass pieces, now gleams from a nearby display, waiting to return to the seaside tower it graced for a century. Installed in 1872, the lens guided mariners along the South Coast until 1972, when a secondary strobe light reduced its use to special occasions. Structural issues closed the lighthouse in 2001, and the lens was moved to an on-site museum gallery to protect its intricate design.

    At its regular monthly meeting held earlier this week, the San Mateo Harbor District elected Commissioner Kathryn Slater-Carter as board president, George Domurat as vice president, Tom Mattusch as treasurer and William Zemke as secretary. All positions were uncontested. During the meeting, commissioners reviewed a staff report confirming that the Pillar Point Harbor RV Park's lessee complied with the terms of the lease on district-owned land near Surfers Beach.

    After the Pacifica School District announced that it is considering plans to consolidate campuses and close Ocean Shore School, parents and students gathered after school let out early on Wednesday to show their support for keeping their school open. The Board of Trustees is expected to make a decision at its Jan. 22 meeting. Many parents said they believed the decision was happening too quickly and hoped there could be more discussion between district administrators and parents.
