Five years ago, much of the international press was focused on protests against the Chinese Communist Party’s tightening grip on the territory. This week, courts there handed down sentences for some of the organizers of those movements and later electoral attempts to show more independence from Beijing, and resumed a trial for media executive Jimmy Lai.
